Many schools are feeling the pinch of the worldwide economy. Even schools that aren’t are of course always looking for ways to budget more efficiently. Professional development is one area where schools are trying to find the right balance between cost and need and expectations.
Why not consider joining forces with a neighboring school? Perhaps you would like to see department x receive training on topic y. Perhaps another relatively nearby school would like to share the cost with you and have their department x trained as well. If you can keep number of participants within an acceptable range, it should not be an issue for most PD providers to accommodate.
