Translate Webpages to Open Doors

Searching in only one language obviously limits results. With a little creativity, using Google’s web translation button (while not perfect, gives a surprisingly good translation) can expand student searches and lead to more in depth analyses of information and even teach students a few words in another tongue. Here are some examples of how using this translation function could enhance learning:

  • While studying another country or culture, have students use search terms in the land’s official language to see how the country presents itself and what they find important and unique about themselves
  • Compare the type and style of information provided by a wide variety of sources on the same topic
  • Cross-analyze media coverage from official sources across a variety of cultures with different systems of government
  • Analyze the stories media chooses to cover according to country or culture
